Dr. Gross has been involved in Sign Language Interpreting over 40 years. About 20 years ago, as Project Coordinator and Senior Writer, she spearheaded the development of training materials on prevention and management of Interpreting Related Injuries (IRI) for the interpreting staff of over 100 at the National Technical Institute for the Deaf (NTID) at RIT (Rochester Institute of Technology). This information has been utilized by several organizations and programs across the country, and at NTID.
Over several years, Dr. Gross consulted with and worked alongside experts in Occupational Medicine, physical therapists, chiropractors, exercise physiologists, acupuncturists, psychologists, trainers, interpreters and others in developing these materials. From that collaboration, Diane developed remediation strategies and interventions specifically applicable to sign language interpreters, thus preserving the integrity of interpreting and creating "safe signing" techniques.
Diane has also realized the need for addressing the intense emotional situations where Interpreters often serve. Diane's workshops in this specific area provide guidance and direction to deal with those residual emotions, as well as offering a path to happier and healthier living. She also trains others to gain this emotional balance in their own lives, regardless of profession. Over time, Diane extended this transferable information to other concerns, as well as training management, drawing from her own extensive management, personnel and business experience and training.
From the business perspective, as former director of Interpreting Services for a National Organization, Dr. Gross provides a knowledge of organizational goals, profitability, liability, quality service, company image and human resource services. As a Doctor of Oriental Medicine (NM) and Life Coach, Diane brings unique and insightful approaches to sustaining and enhancing self-care and personal life, pain prevention/intervention, management, professionalism, and emotionally safe and joyful living. Her insights and recommendations uphold the well-being of the individual, service to the client and reputation of the organization. Her presentations, regardless of topic or venue, are consistently received with appreciation and raves. She is lively, well-informed, congenial and articulate.
